End of Six - Weekly Update |
||
|
Dear Resident,
I hope this message finds you well. As we move through May, I wanted to share a quick round-up of what’s been happening across our local area, what’s coming up, and how we’re working together to keep our community safe and thriving. This update is slightly late due to me dealing with several operations over the last two weeks, namely a few at Utilita Arena, but also some deserved annual leave! It is important that our community gets to hear from myself as the supervisor of the neighbourhood team. As such, I didn’t ask any of the team to complete the weekly updates. We have just had the local elections, and I will now reach out to all the councillors to ensure that we are working together moving forward. May will see us assisting with Eid al-Adha in Alum Rock. We appreciate that you would think that we would assist over on the Coventry Road given we cover that area. This is always owned by our Birmingham West colleagues. I know feedback from Eid al-Fitr was that parking issues were not addressed during the celebrations. I will ensure this is fed back to those running it so that your concerns are addressed. If you see or feel no action was taken, I would be interested to know. You may remember that at the end of March in my monthly updated, I noted that we had limited neighbourhood work completed due to officers being taken away from there work on the area to assist with live calls for service, assisting our response teams. We had hoped that this would decrease in April as we were also given two days per week where we should be able to be left to complete only Neighbourhood Work. We use those days to plan bigger operations to work directly on issues affecting you and work with partners. However, what we have found is that we are still routinely taken off our neighbourhood duties and used to assist our response teams again. This also includes on our protected days meaning that we have had to cancel anything we have had planned. Whilst these decisions are made by senior leaders based on immediate risk to the public, the longer-term impact is not being factored in and it is going to affect crime, relationships and visibility of officers on the street. I feedback constantly on this and work with the police federation to try and ensure we are delivering the local policing guarantee that has been promised by government but also West Midlands Police. I would ask that issues are still reported in and our team email used: Bordesleygreen@westmidlands.police.uk. What you will find is that I do keep you updated on when we are working on that issue, if we have been delayed and rescheduled and then what we have done about that problem. Those that aren’t happy with how local policing is delivered should ensure their local councillor, MP and PCC are aware.
🔍 Local Priorities – See updates monthly here: Bordesley Green | Your area | West Midlands Police | West Midlands Police You may recall Invited you to our priority setting meeting in April to help shape our focus for the next few months. We had a great turn out and there were some common issues reported but a lot was for our partners which has been passed over. Following this, our current focus areas include: We’re continuing patrols and targeted operations in these areas and welcome any feedback or concerns you’d like to raise. As always, we continue to work on other issues, but these will be where we try to focus work, partners and time. I feel that we have a lack of contact with those towards Small Heath over the last few months. It would be great for residents there to get in touch and ensure we are up to date with issues affecting you. Please respond to this message or email: Bordesleygreen@westmidlands.police.uk 🤝 Partnership Working We’ve been working closely with: These collaborations are helping us respond more effectively and holistically to community needs.
🧑🤝🧑 Community Involvement Thank you to everyone who’s taken part in: Your involvement makes a real difference. If you’d like to get involved, please reach out! We know the community wish for speed watch, litter picks etc. We are always happy to discuss and see what we can work together on.
